Fire put out

NEW DELHI:

A fire broke out at the Himalaya House building in the capital’s Connaught Place business and shopping district early on Saturday and was brought under control after almost two hours, fire department officials said. The fire which broke out in the ninth floor of the 12-storeyed building and spread to the 10th floor, was brought under control, they said. “Although the fire was medium in intensity there are no causalities,” an official said. — HNS

Border patrolling

RANCHI:

Jharkhand and Bihar will conduct joint patrolling by police along their shared border areas to tackle Maoist infiltration ahead of the October-November assembly elections in Bihar. Jharkhand police agreed for joint patrolling while turning down a request by Bihar to send state forces in view of the forthcoming polls. According to police sources, Bihar wanted additional forces from Jharkhand. “At a meeting with election officials in New Delhi this week Jharkhand police convinced them not to press for the forces,” said a senior official. — HNS

Two hurt in Delhi blast

NEW DELHI:

Two people were injured in an explosion possibly triggered by firecrackers in a landfill in north Delhi on Saturday, police said. According to police, the explosion took place at around 9.30 am in a garbage pile in Model Town area. The identities of the two injured are yet to be established. “From initial investigations, it looks like a minor explosion from some firecrackers,” said a police official. — HNS
