11 killed in China
BEIJING: Eleven people have died in two workplace in accidents in China, reports said on Saturday.
Six people were killed when the roof of a thermal power plant collapsed in the northern region of Inner Mongolia, and five died when a dam collapsed in Ningxia Hui, Xinhua news agency reported. — AFP

MUMBAI: Noted historian and Islamic scholar Rafiq Zakaria died of a heart attack on Saturday. Family sources say Zakaria, 79, complained of chest pain early in the morning and breathed his last at his residence in Mumbai. — HNS

HYDERABAD: Four Maoists were killed in two separate gun battles with police in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday. Two guerrillas belonging to the CPI Pratighatna and another two of Sarvipalleykunta in West Godavari were killed. — HNS
Cleric shot dead
KARACHI: A Sunni Muslim cleric was shot dead in Pakistan city of Karachi on Saturday as he left a mosque for a nearby seminary, police said. Police were alerted after passers-by spotted the body of Maulana Shamsuddin, 65, in a street near the mosque . — AP
31 missing
JAKARTA: Thirty-one people were missing two days after a ferry sank in high seas off Indonesia’s Papua province, a rescue official said on Saturday. The ferry sank on Thursday after it was engulfed by waves in the Arafura area.— AFP
