Three ultras killed

JAMMU: Indian troops shot dead three Islamic militants on Monday who infiltrated into Indian Kashmir from the Pakistani zone of divided Kashmir, a defence spokesman said. The militants were killed in Rajouri near the line-of-control which acts a de facto border, 179 km northwest of Jammu, the spokesman said. — AFP

One killed in Mazar

KABUL: One man was fatally shot after the return of a former militia commander to northwestern Afghanistan sparked protests and clashes with security forces, officials said on Monday. The man died in hospital in the city of Mazar, hospital director Mirwais Rabi said. Trouble began after a former commander named Gul Mohammed returned last week to the Shirin Tagab district of Faryab province, about 420 km northwest of Kabul, officials said. — AP

Seven killed in attack

AMBON: Seven people, including five policemen, were killed in a pre-dawn attack on Monday on a police post on the island of Seram, north of Ambon in Indonesia’s troubled Maluku province, authorities said. At least six attackers landed in a speedboat at nearby Loki village and killed five Brimob paramilitary officers and a civilian cook, said Maluku police spokesman Commissioner Hendro Prasetyo. The seventh casualty was one of the attackers. —AFP
