Eight killed in mishap
ALIGARH: Eight people were killed and 11 injured when a speeding bus ran over them after they were thrown out of their vehicle that had crashed into a tree near this Uttar Pradesh town, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place late Monday when an overcrowded minibus carrying the labourers from Agra to Ghaziabad rammed into a tree while overtaking another vehicle. — HNS
Suspect identified
YANGON: Myanmar’s military junta says it has identified a suspect wanted in two weekend bombings as a member of an exiled anti-government group, state media reported on Tuesday. Security cameras behind the Traders Hotel in Yangon, filmed a man “carrying explosives” on Sunday evening before blasts went off in the area, The New Light of Myanmar
reported. The newspaper reprinted a snapshot from the security camera, showing a blurry image of a manholding what appears to be a small bag and another nondescript item. — AP
9 Taliban, 6 cops killed
KANDAHAR: Afghan police killed nine Taliban fighters on Tuesday, a day after a militant attack on a checkpoint left six border policemen dead, officials said. About 200 police clashed with militants during the search operation launched following Monday’s attack in Arghasan district of Kandahar province, said Gen Abdul Raziq, a police commander in the area. — AP
