Soldier kills 5 colleagues:

KABUL: An Afghan national army soldier on Thursday opened fire on fellow troops, killing five of them and wounding six, before he was shot and killed by other Afghan soldiers, the US military said. The motive for the shooting spree was unclear. It took place inside a coalition base in southern Helmand province early on Thursday morning. — AP

Alleged Pak don dead:

KARACHI: The alleged kingpin of Pakistan’s criminal underworld, Shoaib Khan, died in custody on Thursday three weeks after his arrest, jail officials said. Khan, in his 40s, complained of chest pain and was rushed to a hospital where he died of a heart attack, the deputy chief of Karachi’s Central Prison, Amanullah Khan, told AFP. — AFP

26 hurt in Kashmir attack:

SRINAGAR: Twenty-six people were hurt on Thursday when suspected Muslim rebels hurled grenades at an election office in a new bid to derail next month’s civic polls in Kashmnir, police said. The attack occurred in Pampore just south of the Srinagar. “Militants attacked the election office when it was abuzz with activity,” police said. — AFP
