Train crushes 18

SURAT: At least 18 people, including three women and two children, were crushed to death by a train in Udhna town of Gujarat’s Surat, railway officials said on Thursday . The accident occurred at South Kankrakhadi in Udhna, about three km from Surat, at about 11 pm on Wednesday.Those dead were reportedly labourers and their families. —HNS

25 Taliban killed

Kandahar: An ambush by militants of an opium poppy eradication force sparked clashes that killed 25 Taliban fighters and a policeman, a provincial police chief said on Thursday. Four other militants died when a bomb went off. Insurgents ambushed the drug eradication force on Wednesday in Marja district of Helmand. — HNS

25 dead in accident

Dhaka: At least 25 people were confirmed dead in Bangladesh after a ferry with around 150 passengers collided with another vessel and sank today, a police official said. The ferry capsized in the Buriganga River just south of the capital Dhaka. — AFP
