Spain police nab 3.3 tons of cocaine, arrest Britons, Dutch
MADRID: Spanish police say they have seized 3,000 kilograms (3.3 tons) of cocaine and arrested 12 people, including Spaniards, Britons and Dutch citizens.
A police statement Tuesday said the drug load was seized in Spain's northwestern region of Galicia but was destined for a gang in the southern Costa del Sol tourist area.
The statement said those arrested included Spaniards who were to transport the cocaine south as well as its British and Dutch buyers and sellers.
No more details regarding the operation were immediately available.
The coastal region of Galicia has long been used by as entry point for drugs being trafficked to Europe. The statement said it was the biggest drug haul on land in the region in nearly 20 years.
