Suspected LeT militant arrested

NEW DELHI: Indian police said they had arrested a suspected militant in New Delhi on Tuesday who was reportedly a member of the Pakistan-based Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant group and carrying explosives.

"Police have arrested one terrorist," police sub-inspector M.P. Singh told AFP without giving other details.

The Press Trust of India said the 27-year-old man was suspected of being a member of Laskhar-e-Taiba and had been taken into custody in central New Delhi after getting off a train.

Deputy police commissioner Alok Kumar told the news agency the man was carrying what "looks like" two kilograms of the powerful explosive RDX.

Police also recovered four detonators and two timers from the suspect, who was reportedly carrying an identity card and a Pakistani passport which showed two different names.

Earlier this month police arrested two men allegedly belonging to the outlawed Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit amid heightened security just days before India's Independence Day.

Police said they had seized weapons, explosives and fake passports from the suspects.

India blames the Pakistan based LeT for repeated attacks on its soil, including last year's assault on Mumbai that left 166 dead.
