Thirty-seven killed in bus accident in southwestern Tanzania

At least 37 people died and eight

others were injured when a passenger bus overturned after it failed

to negotiate a corner on a winding road on a mountainous region in

southwestern Tanzania, a police spokesman said Friday.

"The bus hit an embarkment on the road, and a front tire burst,

causing the bus to overturn," spokesman Laurian Tibaisana said.

The accident occurred Thursday morning near Njombe town, 530

kilometers (331 miles) southwest of Dar es Salaam.

The bus carrying 45 passengers was traveling from Songea to Dar

es Salaam.
