Kolkata, June 4:

As if its political misfortunes weren’t enough, the Trinamool Congress now finds itself mired in a sex scandal. Two party leaders have allegedly been caught red-handed in a prostitution racket. They have been sent to jail till Saturday. While the other parties were quick to point a finger towards the Trinamool, the latter has suspended the two — Ashish Chakraborty, one of the party’s general secretaries, and another leader, Bholanath Bose. On Wednesday night, Chakraborty and Bose were caught during a police raid on a resort where a prostitution racket was allegedly operating.

“The couples were found in compromising positions,” said additional superintendent of police, Rajesh Kumar. Chakraborty and Bose had faked their surnames in the resort’s guest register, but disclosed their true identities when grilled by police. The incident has greatly embarrassed Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee. “The party’s highest authorities have decided to place the two under suspension,” Trinamool spokesman Nirbed Roy said.
