Two killed, several injured in Florida storms

TAMPA, FLORIDA: Two people were killed and several injured in Florida overnight when severe storms gusted in from the Gulf of Mexico, bringing reports of tornado sightings, the National Weather Service said on Sunday.

At least one child was among those injured at a mobile home in Duette, Florida, about an hour south of Tampa, from what appeared to be tornado-force winds, said John McMichael, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Tampa office.

Four children were injured, and two adults were killed, local media outlets reported.

The storms dumped heavy rains and blasted strong winds across the state's central Gulf Coast, McMichael said. Conditions were expected to improve during the day on Sunday.
