Police have arrested four persons, including ward chair, for the murder of Amrit Singh of Chhabispathibhera Rural Municipality, Bajhang.

According to DSP Rupak Khadka of Bajhang District Police Office, Singh was attacked with a machete while he was on the way home last night.

'He was heading home after participating in the Guardian Teacher Association's election at Bannichaur Secondary School in his ward when a dispute broke out between him and some other people during which he was attacked with a machete and killed on the spot.

Besides ward chairperson of Chhabispathibhera Rural Municipality Bikas Ayadi, police have arrested Prakash Ayadi, Kedar Ayadi and Gyan Bahadur Kathayat of the same rural municipality.

Police said a government motorbike used by the ward chairman was used in the murder.

Ward Chair Ayadi was arrested last night itself with his motorbike from a hotel in district headquarters Chainpur.

While Kathayat was detained by the locals yesterday itself from the incident site and handed over to police, the two others were arrested from Jambhanjh village, Thalara Rural Municipality, today.

Meanwhile, a demonstration was held in Chainpur today seeking action against the murderers.

The agitating demonstrators halted transportation in the district headquarters and burnt tyres in front of the district administration office seeking stern punishment for the murderers.

Former district president of Nepali Congress Prithvi Bahadur Singh suspected the murder was politically motivated and said the murderers might escape punishment.
