Yet another variant of the coronavirus has been detected in the UK with mutations.

According to the BBC, scientists have identified another new variant of covid -- B.1.525 -- in the UK with some potentially troubling mutations.

The newest UK variant that has been found in 33 cases till date is apparently similar to the South African variant which prompted door-to-door tests in areas where it has been found.

Some of these cases date back to December, a BBC report stated. The United States, Nigeria and Denmark too have identified this variant.

According to British experts, the variant appears to have significant mutations as already noticed in other variants which could indicate that their likely effect can be predicted.

With the identification of this variant, concerns have emerged regarding the ways and speed of the spread and the efficacy of existing vaccines.
