KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 24
According to the American media, a probe into the coordinated Easter Sunday bombings of 2019 in Sri Lanka has called for the nation's former President as well as senior poilce and intelligence officials to be prosecuted.
The inquiry committee said on Wednesday that 'criminal proceedings' should be filed against the former Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena.
Sirisena had to quit office, following the attacks for criminal liability on his part in relation to the 2019 attacks.
Suicide bombers on April 21, 2019 had executed a coordinated attack on three Catholic churches and three luxury hotels that had left as many as 270 casualties while injuring people in excess of 500.
The committee which was formed by the erstwhile President to investigate the matter has concluded that the Prez despite knowledge of a possible attack had toured to India and then Singapore from April 16 to 21 without making any acting appointment for the post of Minister of Defense.
