BAITADI, FEBRUARY 26

Nepali and Indian authorities have agreed to exchange information on curbing trans-border crime, smuggling of illegal weapons and contraband, and on maintaining law and order along the border areas.

This agreement was reached at a meeting of Nepal-India district-level border security coordination committee. The meeting was held in Jhulaghat of India on Thursday.

Chief of Baitadi District Police Office, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Narayan Prasad Adhikari said, the agreement states that both countries would work in coordination to prevent criminal activities along the border, exchange information before and after the incidents, control revenue leakage, and raise the bar of security checks in the border region, among other pertinent issues.

DSP Adhikari, Armed Police Force (APF) Baitadi district chief Ganesh Shah, and representatives of the Customs Office from Nepal's side and Vice-commander of the India's Border Security Force (BSF), RK Rajeshwori along with representatives of Indian Police and Customs from the Indian side participated in the meeting.

Although it was agreed in the meeting of the Committee held last February to convene the meeting every three months, it was held after a year owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
