DAMAULI, APRIL 1
Byas Municipality has started reaping benefits by selling garbage collected in the bazaar areas of Damauli.
First, garbage was segregated at the doorsteps of locals. The municipality started selling non-degradable garbage and making fertiliser from biodegradable garbage and using it for rooftop farming.
A sum of Rs 1.9 million was allocated for garbage management by the Forest and Environment Ministry. The municipality will contribute 20 per cent of the allocated amount.
Agriculture Knowledge Centre, Tanahun Chief Kul Prasad Tiwari, said rooftop farming could be done easily, but it was difficult to motivate people. A version of this article appears in the print on April 2, 2021, of The Himalayan Times.
