Two killed, seven injured in Gorkha road accident

Two people died while seven others sustained injuries after the jeep they were traveling on fell off the road in Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality-2 of Gorkha district on Saturday evening.

Police have identified the deceased as Thakur Duwadi (48) and Rameshwor Neupane (50), both of Bichaur in Dudhpokhari Rural Municipality-2 of Lamjung district, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prakash Dahal, at District Police Office.

The incident occurred when the jeep (Na 5 Chha 3298), returning from Barpak, skidded off the road and fell some 200 metres below at around 7:00 pm in Rangrung, killing two and injuring seven others.

The injured were rushed to Chitwan after undergoing primary treatment at Gorkha Hospital. Among the injured, two -- Bishnu Neupane (31) and Anil Marhatta (28) both of Dudhpokhari-2 in Lamjung -- are said to be in critical condition.

Other injured have been identified as Amrit Duwadi (18), Bishnu Duwadi (30), Bishnu Duwadi (29), all three of Dudhpokhari-2, Santosh Tamang (20), of Besisahar Municipality-10 in Lamjung and Suhil Naral of Byas Municipality-1 in Tanahun, DSP Dahal added.

The jeep was reportedly hired by the occupants for a visit to Barpak.

Further investigation into the incident is underway, informed police.
