Factory catches fire
LALITPUR: A fire broke out at the Bira Plywood Factory in the Patan Industrial Area on Wednesday, damaging property worth Rs 3 million. No one was inside when the factory caught fire, SP at the Lalitpur District Police Office, Rabiraj Shrestha, said. The fire was doused after eight hours of strenuous efforts by six fire brigades, the police and locals, Shrestha said. — HNS
Don Bosco aid
KATHMANDU: The Don Bosco HS School and College has extended Rs 1,60,000 in assistance to the family of late Tek Raj Acharya, a staff assistant at the college. Acharya passed away on January 13 due to kidney failure, a statement said. — HNS
Two killed in accident
KATHMANDU: Two persons were killed and two others were injured when a mini-bus with registration number Ba 12 Pa 1064 hit two motorcycles near the Lainchaur chowk yesterday. According to the Durbarmarg Ward Police Office, Hira Bahadur Ale, 35, and Madhu Thapa, 30, were killed while they were being rushed to the Bir Hospital for treatment. Both were the

KATHMANDU: Central member of the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), Maya Rai, and president of the Free Students’ Union Bishowa Bhasha Campus unit, Shantosh Pant, were arrested from New Baneshwor on Wednesday. They were taking part in a protest against the arrest of former PM Sher Bahadur Deuba, joint general secretary of the Nepal Students’ Union, Kalyan Gurung, said. — HNS

KATHMANDU: A case was filed at the Special Court on Wednesday against the then supervisor of the Department of National Research, Khadak Bahadur Gurung, the then branch officer of the Janak Educational Material Centre, Biswaram Karanjit, senior official of the Janakapur Cigarette Factory Limited, Suresh Prasad Acharya, senior official of the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority’s Pokhara branch, Tek Bahadur Pandey on charges of submitting fake educational certificates. — RSS
