Nepali women script history scaling Mt Annapurna

Six Nepali women scaled Mount Annapurna today, scripting history as first Nepali women to stand atop the 8,091-metre peak.
Photojournalist Purnima Shrestha, Passang Lhamu Sherpa, Dabhuti Sherpa, Sharmila Syangtan Tamang, Dawa Yangjum Sherpa and Nepal Mountaineering Association's vice-president Maya Sherpa successfully climbed the world's tenth highest on Friday.

In the October of 1978, Vera Komarkova and Irene Miller from the United States had, in a historic expedition, successfully climbed Annapurna to become the first women and the first Americans to do so.
Over 60 other climbers scaled Annapurna in the first successful summit this season.
