The Tribhuvan University (TU) has instructed its constituent and affiliated campuses especially in big cities hit by COVID-19 infections to carry out teaching and learning activities by virtual means.

Chief of TU's Information and Public Relations Division, Yogendra Prasad Dahal said the country's oldest university has issued directives to conduct classes virtually in the light of surge in Covid-19 cases.

The Council of Ministers on Monday had decided that the educational institutions in the eight high risk districts should conduct teaching and learning activities online or through alternative means until May 14.

According to Dahal, the colleges in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kaski, Jhapa, Sunsari, Morang, Saptari, Janakpur, Makawanpur, Rupandehi, Butwal, Chitwan, Banke, Parsa, Nepalgunj, Dang, Surkhet, Baglung and Mahendranagar have been instructed to conduct the theoretical classes online.

TU has urged colleges in the rest of the districts except in the above –mentioned big cities to run classes establishing coordination with the local governments and fully following the health safety protocols.

Similarly, TU has also given instruction to conduct examinations by adopting health precautions, not to organise any meeting, assembly, seminar and conference with more than 25 participants adhering to safety measures.
