Meeting of CPN-UML's general convention committee underway in Baluwatar

A meeting of the general convention organisers' committee of the ruling CPN-UML is underway.
The meeting is presently taking place at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had formed a general convention committee comprising 1,199 members, on December 22 last year, prior to the revival of CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre. PM Oli had then stated that the number shall be reached by adding 556 members to the 447-member central committee, keeping open the possibility of adding 196 members in the future.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli-led central committee members of the then Nepal Communist Party (NCP) had also decided to hold the general convention in November 2021.
Among other agenda of today's meeting, it has been learnt that discussions will be carried out on the explanation forwarded by five leaders belonging to the faction led by Madhav Kumar Nepal.
The clarification was forwarded by leaders Jhalanath Khanal, Mukunda Neupane, Bhawani Khapung, Surendra Pandey along with senior leader Nepal himself to Parliamentary Party's office, on Thursday, in response to clarification sought by Parliamentary Party leader PM Oli.
