UML to lower party flag to mourn Chaulagain

The CPN-UML has decided to fly the party flag at halfmast for three days over the demise of Pashupati Chaulagain, a Provincial Assembly member of the party.

The CPN-UML has decided to fly the party flag at halfmast for three days over the demise of Pashupati Chaulagain, a Provincial Assembly member of the party.

Besides, a condolence book will be kept at the party's central office and party offices across the country to mourn the demise of the party leader.

According to UML Central Office Secretary Sher Bahadur Tamang, leaders today paid tributes to the late Chaulagain by garlanding his portrait placed on the top of the entrance of the central party office.

Chaulagain had died due to COVID-19 on Monday. He was cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat today. He was a member of the Bagmati Province Assembly from Dolakha 'B'.

He had won the general election from Dolakha 1 in 1999 and was a member in the 2013 second Constituent Assembly from the proportional representation quota.

Chaulagain, who had been active in politics since his student life, was considered as a decent, dedicated and honest political leader. He was born to Bhakta Maya and Chandra Prasad on 17 February 1964 in Kavre village of Dolakha district and was lately a resident of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality, Bhaktapur. He is survived by his spouse, two daughters and a son.

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party has expressed sorrow over the demise of member of the Party Senior Politician Assembly, Prithvi Bahadur Karki and CPN-UML leader Pashupati Chaulagain.

Issuing separate condolence statements today, NCPP Chief Whip Bal Krishna Khand paid tributes to the two leaders, recalling their contribution to their respective parties and the country's democratic movement.

Senior politician Karki died on May 10 while former lawmaker and UML leader Chaulagain died yesterday.
