BHOJPUR: High workload due to less number of serving VDC secretaries in the district has been taking toll on their performance since long. However, authorities concerned are yet to fill the vacant position or deploy other government employees to assist them. In the total 63 VDCs of Bhojpur, only 33 secretaries have been offering services to local residents. Although it appears that one secretary has to handle the chores of maximum two VDCs, Rewati Dhungana, secretary of Bhojpur VDC, has been performing tasks of 10 VDCs. 'As the vacant posts have gone unfilled since long, it is creating tremendous pressures on us,'' he said. According to him, the situation persists not only due to the vacant posts but also because many of his colleagues have taken leave. DDC source says even as the number of secretaries is not enough here, eight of them were transferred elsewhere recently. Due to the huge workload, the secretaries have begun demanding 'one secretary: one VDC'. However, a DDC staffer said it was not possible to fulfill their demand immediately.
