Volunteer Corps Nepal partners with Hong Kong-based Sowers Action to complete Covid-19 emergency relief project worth Rs 10m

KATHMANDU, JUNE 27

Volunteer Corps Nepal (VCN) in partnership with Hong Kong-based Sowers Action, has launched and completed Covid-19 Emergency Relief Project 2021, worth Rs 10 million, in a bid to distribute medical supplies to 11 government health facilities in seven different districts of Nepal.

According to the statement issued by VCN, the project had targeted to provide medical aids and supplies to Bir Hospital and Chandragiri Municipality Primary Hospital in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur Hospital and Siddhi Memorial Women and Children Hospital in Bhaktapur, Ruth Weirich Community Health Post and Barhabise Health Post in Sindhupalchowk, Barathawa Isolation Center in Sarlahi, Janakpur Provincial Hospital in Dhanusa, Bhardaha Hospital in Saptari and Lumbini Provincial Hospital in Rupandehi.

The 20-day project started on 29 May by providing medical aid to Chandragiri Municipality Primary Hospital, Kathmandu ended on 18 June with VCN providing aid to Lumbini provincial Hospital.

The collaboration distributed 100 oxygen cylinders, 800 pieces of PPE, 500 litres of sanitiser, 500 boxes of gloves, 500 pieces of medical mask, 10,000 pieces of three layers masks, and 500 boxes of tissue papers and 1000 litres of drinking water were distributed among the hospitals. Similarly, 300 pieces of oximeters, 300 pieces of thermometers and 1000 tablets of medicines were distributed in the community as well as in hospitals, said VCN.

The collaboration also provided cooked food in Haripur, Sarlahi and established an isolation centre in Sarlahi district, added the statement.

'When we were requesting everyone to stay indoors to save their and their family's lives, the team of VCN was constantly mobilised on the ground to save people's lives without caring about their own,' Dr Dev Narayan Shah, Vice-Chancellor at National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), Bir Hospital praised the VCN's work.

Deepak Chapagain, President at VCN and Radha Matangi, the Vice President expressed their gratitude to all the health workers for working selflessly during the pandemic and stated that they were immensely happy to be a part of fighters against COVID. They also thanked all health facilities for accepting the support they extended.

'We are indebted to Sowers Action Hong Kong, China for extended their help in this tough time,' said President Chapagain at the VCN.

VCN is one of the organisations actively contributing toward reducing the impact of Covid-19 from the first wage of the Covid-19 pandemic and continued doing so during the second wave too.
