KATHMANDU, JULY 18

Newly appointed Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is set to face a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives, on Sunday.

In a sudden turn of events, Deuba decided to undergo the floor test at a time when disagreement within the opposition CPN-UML has reached an all-time high while the equation between two factions in the Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal is also changing every other day.

The first meeting of the reinstated House is commencing today, Deuba has made plans to face the parliament during which.

The Constitution of Nepal provisions that a Prime Minister appointed in accordance with Article 76 (5) must undergo a floor test in the parliament within a period of 30 days.

Deuba must secure majority of votes in a bid to continue his tenure in correspondence to the tenure of the current House of Representatives- at the end of which the general elections will be held following the normal course.

Should he fail to receive the adequate numbers, the government will automatically turn into a caretaker one and may have to dissolve the House and announce fresh snap polls.

The Federal Parliament Secretariat has already registered Deuba's proposal to undergo the trust notion.
