KATHMANDU, JULY 31
Five student unions have demanded an end to the culture of appointing universities' office bearers on the basis of political power sharing.
A delegation of the student unions today called on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at his official residence in Baluwatar and demanded that appointments be made through open competition.
Competency, efficiency and expertise should be the criteria for appointment to such posts, they said. The delegation has sought removal of BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences' vice-chancellor, who has been accused of corruption and irregularities.
During the meeting, Nepal Students Union General Secretary Deepak Bhattarai said the government was also urged to address the students' protest against misconduct at the Mid- Western University and to conduct examinations.
Similarly, the student unions urged the PM to bring out the truth about the missing youth in Darchula after falling from a tuin.
NSU President Rajeev Dhungana, Akhil ( Revolutionary)'s President Ranjeet Tamang, All Nepal Free Students' Union President Sudesh Parajuli, Samajbadhi Students Union's President Rup Narayan Shrestha and Akhil (Sixth ) President Bimal Pokharel were in the delegation.
