KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 09

The Vice President of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) of Compact Operations, Fatema Z. Sumar, today called on CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli at the latter's residence in Balkot, Bhaktapur.

During the meeting, different aspects of MCC compacts were also discussed.

On the occasion, Vice President Sumar urged Oli to support in advancing the MCC since the US government was for forwarding the processes to approve the MCC from the parliament.

According to UML's Foreign Department Chief Rajan Bhattarai, who attended the meeting, Oli told the MCC Vice President that the UML will not make its position until the government makes it clear viewpoint on MCC as the UML is in opposition.

'First, the incumbent government should be clear whether to approve the MCC as the government holds majority. And, then UML will make its stance. Now, UML has not made any perception,' Bhattarai quoted Oli as saying.

Recalling that the MCC could not be approved in the past from the parliament despite efforts of UML-led government as the Speaker did not table it in the parliament, Oli said that now the UML will not have direct role in it since the party was in opposition, according to Bhattarai.

During the meeting, other UML leaders along with representatives of the MCC were also present.
