US Embassy hands 'International Women of Courage' trophy to Muskan Khatun

KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 20

The United States Embassy in Kathmandu has handed the 'International Women of Courage' trophy to Muskan Khatun.

Khatun is an acid attack survivor who faced an attack at the age of 15 after she refused the culprit's advances. Now an activist, she campaigned for legislation against acid attacks and was instrumental in getting laws passed for tough action against perpetrators.

US Ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry gave Muskan Khatun the trophy on October 19.

Also present at the event was rights activist and Member of Constituent Assembly, Arzu Rana Deuba.

The Embassy, in a social media post stated that the event brought together established and emerging women leaders from all backgrounds.

'Muskan and Ambassador Berry urged parliamentary approval of the 2020 acid attack and rape ordinances,' the post further read.
