Two killed, 62 injured in Panchthar bus accident

Two persons died while 62 others sustained injuries after the bus they were travelling on fell below the road at Sarkhande of Phidim Municipality-4 of Panchthar district, on Sunday.

Two persons died while 62 others sustained injuries after the bus they were travelling on fell below the road at Sarkhande of Phidim Municipality-4 of Panchthar district, today.

The incident occurred when the bus (Ko 1 Kha 3865) en route to Jhapa from Shivadobhan of Phidim-4 fell approximately 20 metres below from the road at around 11:30 am today. It is said the accident happened as the bus was trying to overtake another vehicle.

According to police, a child and a woman have died in the incident however, their identities have yet to be ascertained. They were taken to the Samarpit Hospital where the doctors involved in their treatment confirmed their death, informed Ganesh Rijal, public relations officer at the hospital.

Additionally, 15 of the 62 people injured are minors.

Four of the injured have been sent to Jhapa, while the rest are being treated at the Samarpit and Pathibhara Hospitals.

Meanwhile, plans were being made to refer ten people to different medical facilities. Three people have already been discharged after receiving general medical care at the Samarpit Hospital.
