Sound Cuddles triumphant at SBC 2

KATHMANDU: After a journey that spanned four months, Sound Cuddles outformed the other two bands at the Sprite Band Challenge 2 (SBC 2) finale on January 6 and walked away victorious. Sound Cuddles is the same band that had taken part in SBC 1 as All Time Loser. However, this time they were the winners and went home with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a chance to cut a music video. Pranaya Sthapit, Country Marketing Manger of Bottlers Nepal Private Limited, handed over the cheque. Sound Cuddles gave a rocking performance with their original numbers — Bichhod Katha and Panchhi. The band not only enthralled the audience and also garnered the highest score — 27.5 out of 30 — from the three judges Dev Rana, Robin Tamang and Abhaya Subba. “I am feeling as if I am on the top of the world,” shared Rajan Yonjan, vocalist, Sound Cuddles after winning the title. He added it was tough competition as the other two bands were equally talented but that they had done it “We stepped up on every round, we improved our performance and today we gave our best shot and the results prove it,” he added. Inflected, the only band with a female vocalist, performed their original numbers Peace and Ekta Ko Udharan. Inflected showed their calibre as the vocalist performed with a true rocker’s attitude. The judges gave them 25 points. Baptizma rocked the evening with their self-composed numbers Daara Ley and Prerna and were given 24 points by the judges. As the performances were judged on the basis of SMS votes and live performance, in the total tally Baptizma was the first runner-up and won Rs 50,000, while second runners-up Inflected won Rs 30,000. Abhaya and The Steam Injuns and Robin ’N The New Revolution also rocked the crowd. The former set the stage on fire with Sapana Ra Kartabya and Sakdina, the latter performed Hamro Desh and Sarkar with much energy. The event was aired live on Kantipur Television.
