Discourage movies connoting violence:Minister

KATHMANDU: Minister for Information and Communication Shankar Pokharel today said the films that carried negative messages should be discouraged to create a peaceful society. Speaking at an interaction organised by Media House and Film Development Board (FDB) Minister Pokharel said, “The films promoting violence and chaos in the society be discouraged.” He said that the public enacted the films in their real life therefore gender discrimination should be completely avoided while making films. He said that the state had given priority to end gender violence. He also expected that the FDB would take initiatives to make appropriate rules and laws to eliminate such discrimination in film sector. Richa Ghimire, an actress said that the female artists were undergoing three types of violence like physical, psychological and economical in the sector. She claimed that the film producers and directors were exploiting female artists in the country. “Despite having capabilities, we have to work under the schedule of male counterparts,” she claimed. During the programme, film director Prakash Sayami presented a paper on ‘Gender discrimination.
