Protest against CJ Rana continues

KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 21

The Nepal Bar Association and dissident justices of the Supreme Court continued to protest against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana today.

Protesting lawyers staged a sit-in at the main entrance of the apex court. Dissident justices heard only the habeas corpus writ petitions, petitions seeking withdrawal of cases, and cases that needed to be kept pending.

According to NBA Vice-president Rakshya Basyal, advocates Gopal Shrestha and Ganesh Oli were injured when security personnel used force against protesting lawyers at the SC.

The NBA and dissident justices of the Supreme Court have been protesting against Rana for almost a month now accusing him of seeking to get his brother-in-law appointed in the Sher Bahadur Deuba Cabinet and delaying hearing of cases filed against the appointments made to constitutional bodies.

Tomorrow, the NBA will halt all proceedings, including the submission of pleading notes, filing of petitions, cases, and written responses, and writ petitions.
