KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 23

Minister of Urban Development Ram Kumari Jhakri has said that the role of community along with the government was vital in preserving historical, archaeological, and cultural heritage.

Inaugurating and handing over the reconstructed historical, cultural and archaeological heritage on the premises of Teku Pachali today, Minister Jhakri said that such heritages could be sustained only if we developed an appropriate way of operation. The role of government won't be complete after handing over the heritages.

Minister Jhakri stressed the need for co-work among the stakeholders to prevent the encroachment of rivers and rivulets in Kathmandu valley.

She also argued that the rivers in the Valley should not be mixed with drainage to safeguard the Bagmati civilisation while stating that the government was working to that end even by accepting loan assistance.

The unmanaged settlements on the river banks should be replaced and the government would ensure safe housing for the real squatters, according to Minister Jhakri.

On the occasion, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiribabu Maharjan, Chairman of High-Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization Uddhav Prasad Timilsena, former chief secretary Leela Mani Paudyal and others argued for government-community partnership for the conservation of heritages and development of a civilised city.
