Silk Group, Nepal Telecom enter final

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 23

Silk Group and Nepal Telecom advanced to the final of the Kumari Bank Kathmandu Team Championship here at the NSC covered hall today.

Silk Group defeated Nepal Electricity Authority 3-1, while Nepal Telecom beat Nepal Oil Corporation in the semi-finals of the corporate badminton tournament organised by Kathmandu Badminton Academy. The final is slated for Saturday.

Silk made a flying start against NEA after ranked players Bikash Shrestha and Anumaya Rai recorded wins in the singles events. Shrestha defeated Deepak Bohara 21-18, 21-17 in men's singles, while Rai recorded a 21-16, 18-21, 21-13 victory over Shova Gauchan in the women's section.

NEA reduced the deficit when Shree Prasad Dhimal and Raju Maharjan outplayed Silk pair of Subash Adhikari and Ramesh Sherpa in the corporate doubles event. Anumaya Rai then teamed up with Tashi Sherpa to beat NEA pair of Shova Gauchan and Yam Kumari Gurung in women's doubles to seal the final berth for Silk.

In another semi-final match, Nepal Telecom's Ratnajit Tamang defeated NOC's Bishnu Katuwal 21-7 21-10 in men's singles match to put his side ahead before Rashila Maharjan levelled the scores for NOC after she recorded a 21-12, 21-8 victory over Sima Rajbanshi in women's singles event.

Nepal Telecom took the lead for the second time when Surendra Singh Karki and Hari Krishna Sharma beat NOC pair of Laxman Bishwokarma and Ram Bishwokarma 21-9, 21-8 in corporate doubles. NOC bounced back to make it 2-2 after Rashila Maharjan and Sarmila Katuwal defeated Nepal Telecom's Sima Rajbanshi and JT Guddi in women's doubles match.
