Six parties protest against strike

SIRAHA, DECEMBER 28

Six major parties in Siraha have condemned the recent spate of strikes, arson, and vandalism in the district.

Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN-MC, Janata Samajbadi Party, Lokatantrik Samajbadi Party and CPN-Unified Socialist issued a joint press release, saying the latest series of strikes, arson and vandalism carried out by Janamat Party has drawn their attention.

'The recent series of crimes committed in the name of politics has drawn our attention,' read the statement that demanded that the administration unconditionally release farmers and others who were arrested during strikes.

The statement has also demanded that the issue related to theft of seeds be settled through discussion at the local level itself and that the administration lift its prohibitory order. The parties, in the statement, have also committed to help maintain peace and security in the district.

Janamat Party was carrying out strikes and protests after farmers were arrested on the charge of stealing wheat seeds from the storage of the rural municipality about a week ago. Bandh enforcers of the party on Sunday torched a truck and vandalised dozens of other vehicles for defying the strike they had called.
