KATHMANDU, JANUARY 3

The team of three brothers Mingma, Chhang Dawa, and Tashi Lakpa Sherpa became the first three siblings and the first Nepali team to reach the South Pole (90°S), on Sunday.

The trio had been in Antarctica for three weeks before reaching the South Pole on January 2, 2022 at 13:00 Chile time (21:45 Nepal time).

The crew will also tackle Mt. Vinson in the second week of January, according to Thaneswar Guragai, manager of Seven Summit Treks.

The Vinson (4,892M/16,050FT) is the highest peak in the Antarctica Continent and the South Pole, also known as the Geographic South Pole or Terrestrial South Pole, is one of the two points where Earth's axis of rotation intersects its surface.

Mingma and Chhang Dawa Sherpa, among the three siblings, held the Guinness World Record for 'World's First Siblings to Climb All 8000ers,' according to the Seven Summit.

Tashi Lakpa Sherpa also holds the Guinness record for climbing Mt. Everest at the age of 20 without using supplementary oxygen, added the SST.

The siblings have also planned a trip to the North Pole in the spring of 2022.
