KATHMANDU, JANUARY 15
Substitute forward Bijay Bhujel scored the solitary goal in the injury time as Three Star Club defeated Sankata Club 1-0 in the Qatar Airways Martyrs Memorial A Division League, while Tribhuvan Army Football Club beat Friends Club 3-1 here at the Dasharath Stadium today.
At a time when the match was heading towards the end, Bhujel produced the moment on brilliance in the seventh minute of the injury time to seal his club's fourth win in nine matches.
Three Star moved up to fourth with 16 points, while Sankata faced their first defeat in the league and dropped to fifth with 14 points.
Sankata Club goalkeeper Raja Babu Thapa punched back a cross from Nishan Khadka and Raphael Bidias Rim attempted a shot in rebound before Bhujel made a golden touch to put the ball into the goal. Bhujel had replaced Sanjok Rai in the 90th minute as Three Star - who went into the match without five key players due to injury - looked for options. Earlier both the teams created a couple of opportunities but they were not able to break the deadlock.
In another match, Tribhuvan Army FC recorded a comfortable victory over relegation-threatened Friends Club. Army, who recorded their fourth victory to add to five draws in the league, climbed up to third position with 17 points, two behind second-placed Manang Marshyangdi Club. Friends remained at the bottom with three points.
Defending champions Machhindra can open up a four-point lead at the top of the table with win over Brigade Boys Club on Sunday.
Jagajeet Shrestha put Tribhuvan Army ahead in the 10th minute before Dinesh Henjan doubled the tally moments before the break. Jamoul Anthony Francois reduced the deficit for Friends with a goal two minutes into the second half, while Suman Aryal restored Army's twogoal cushion in the 71st minute.
