537 health workers contract COVID in Chitwan

With the spread of the third wave of coronavirus, a total of 537 doctors and health workers have tested positive for COVID-19 in hospitals and health institutions of Chitwan.

With 144 cases, BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital has recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases while in Chitwan Medical College 114 tested positive for the contagion, Chief of Health Office Chitwan Dipak Prasad Tiwari said.

According to Tiwari, 83 persons have been infected in Bharatpur Hospital, 62 in other private hospitals and 34 health workers in the College of Medical Sciences in the district.

Similarly, 28 health workers working in Bharatpur Metropolitan City's health section tested positive for the virus while 15 in Ratnanagar Municipality and 18 each in Rapti Municipality and Khairahani Municipality also contracted the virus. Eight health workers were infected in Kalika Municipality and nine in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality.

Tiwari said that details from Madi Municipality have not been received so far. Likewise, four persons tested positive for coronavirus in the District Health Office, Chitwan.

Tiwari said health care institutions have not halted their services so far and continue offering services on the basis of rotational duty of health workers.
