KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 9

The 19th Global Safer Internet Day was marked in Nepal with the slogan 'Together for better Internet'.

On the occasion, Nepal Telecommunications Authority and Creative Society Nepal yesterday hosted a workshop on 'Digital Divide and Children Online Safety' in collaboration with the Net for Good Alliance and coordination with National Child Rights Council.

Representatives from different ministries, agencies and civil society organisations pitching for internet rights stressed the need for guardians and the concerned side to be cautious and responsible regarding the possible security threats to children from internet use/abuse, while also keeping in mind the inevitability of the use of information and communications technology in the present context.

The speakers also recommended amendment of the concerned laws and policies being cognisant of emerging dimensions and also laid emphasis on effective implementation of the existing laws and policies of the country.

At the programme, joint secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology shared that the government was implementing the 'Digital Nepal Framework' that would bring reforms in cyber security policy and law in a bid to check the increasing violation of child rights on the internet.
