KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 20
A meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the House of Representatives has included tabling of Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact in the schedule for today's proceedings.
The much talked about compact is finally being tabled today after months, rather years, of controversy and confusion over whether or not to proceed with parliamentary process to ratify the same.
However, it is unlikely that any discussion will be held on the compact today itself amid the ongoing impasse.
Earlier today, the government's coalition partners had agreed to table the MCC, even through leaders from the ruling parties, other than the Nepali Congress, are issuing conflicting statements with regard to the same.
In his desperate bids to table and ratify the deal amid an approaching deadline, NC President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has expedited political meetings, and has clarified that the coalition's future may be jeopardized failing to table the same.
The erstwhile government of the now dissolved Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by KP Sharma Oli had registered a proposal for MCC ratification in June 2019, which had not materialised due to lack of cooperation from its then lawmakers from Nepal-Dahal led faction.
