Sudurpaschim has witnessed steady decline in the transmission rate of coronavirus recently. As per data with the province health directorate, the province saw zero COV- ID infection on Friday and Sunday.

As the new variant of the coronavirus, Omicron, was spreading fast in India, the province was also hit with most people returning from India bringing the virus.

Sudurpaschim COVID-19 contact person Hemraj Joshi says the risk of the virus still exists. 'Though the transmission rate has come to zero, the risk hasn't gone away because many people return home from India everyday and it is likely that they bring the infection home with them,'

Joshi said. 'Work related to risk management is under way with health check-up at all entry points including in Jhulaghat, Gaddachauki and Trinagar,' he added.

Three districts in the province - Doti, Achham and Bajura - have witnessed zero COVID cases in the last few days. At present, the province has a total of 40 active COV- ID cases: 25 in Kailali, nine in Kanchanpur, three in Baitadi and one each in Darchula, Bajhang and Dadeldhura.
