Nominations filed for local elections nationwide

Nominations were filed for various posts at the local levels across the country for the local polls slated for May 13, today.
A total of eighteen individuals filed their nominations for the post of mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City.
Eighteen persons, including Rajeshman Singh of Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal, registered their nominations for the mayoral post. Singh had bagged 12,135 votes and come in the third position in the last local polls. Then, he had contested the polls from Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal.
Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal Secretary Tabarej Ahamad said Singh filed nomination for the post of mayor from the ruling alliance of Nepali Congress, Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal, CPN-Maoist Centre, CPN- UML (Unified Socialist) and Rastriya Janamorcha. NC Parsa Secretary Imtiyaj Alam filed his nomination for the post of deputy mayor on behalf of the ruling alliance.
Likewise, erstwhile mayor Bijay Kumar Sarawagi has filed nomination for the post of mayor from the CPN- UML. Sarawagi was elected to the post of mayor from the then Federal Socialist Forum.
After Sarawagi saw no chance of receiving ticket again, he quit Janata Samajbadi Party- Nepal and joined the CPN-UML oneand-a-half months ago.
UML has forged electoral alliance with Loktantrik Samajbadi Party. Loktantrik Samajbadi Party's Parsa Chair Purusottamlal Jha has registered his nomination for the post of deputy mayor.
Girish Giri has filed nomination for the post of mayor from Rastriya Prajatantra Party. Nepal Sadbhawana Party's Bijay Kumar Rauniyar and Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party Gokarna Prasad Koiri have also filed their nominations for the post of mayor in Birgunj.
In Dhangadi sub-metropolis, Nrip Bahadur Odd and Shanti Adhikari filed their nominations for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor from the ruling alliance.
Leaders and cadres reached the office of Chief Election Officer, Dhangadi, and filed their nominations for mayor and deputy mayor.
Odd is from the Nepali Congress and Adhikari is from the CPN-Maoist Centre.
Odd had won the mayoral post in the last local polls from Nepali Congress.
CPN-UML's Anat Prasad Poudel and Sumitar Kafle have filed their nominations for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor in Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City. They reached the office of election office Hetauda and registered their nominations.
