RAUTAHAT, MAY 13
CPN (Unified Socialist) Chair and former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal accused the Election Commission of failing to stop the trends of vote buying and feasts meant for wooing voters.
He was speaking briefly to journalists after casting his ballot at Ramjanaki Kanya Preliminary School Polling Centre of Gaur Municipality, Rautahat, today.
'How can an honest, sincere person contest the election when feasts and money are being used to buy votes?' asked Nepal, adding it was worrying to see that the Election Commission had failed to stop the wrong trends.
'Looking at various irregularities during the election time, it begs serious question as to where we are heading,' he said, also suggesting that police administration should fulfil its responsibility impartially and effectively.
Meanwhile, a group of people hooted against Nepal when he reached Gaurishankar Yadav Campus Voting Centre of Gaur Municipality-5 to observe the situation there. Police managed to safely extricate him from the voting centre where the group tried to attack the visiting leader with brickbats.
