Vice-president Pun observes Bhairav dance in Madhyapur Thimi

BHAKTAPUR, AUGUST 14

Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun observed the historical Laiyaku Bhaila dance in Madhyapur Thimi yesterday.

The vice-president was welcomed on the premises of Balkumari temple in Madhyapur Thimi last night by Madhyapur Thimi Mayor Surendra Shrestha, Deputy Mayor Bijay Krishna Shrestha and other dignitaries. On the occasion, the vice-president observed the historical Bhairav dance in front of Balkumari temple and learned about the cultural, religious and historical significance of Laiyaku Bhaila Dance.

Bhairav dance guru Arjun Shrestha presented tika and prasad to Vice-president Pun while Niranjan Shrestha offered prasad and flowers to him. On the occasion, Mayor Shrestha presented a picture of Bhairav dance while Guru Shrestha presented him with a mask of Bhairav.

The first day of the dance, which ended this morning, was conducted throughout the night despite the rain. The tantric and historical Bhairav dance has taken place after a hiatus of 45 years at the initiative of local people and with the help of the municipality and donors.
