Garbage disposal likely to resume

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 17

A meeting of chief district officers and local level representatives of Kathmandu, Nuwakot, and Dhading held in Kakani on Wednesday reached a four point agreement to end the ongoing deadlock over waste management.

The all-side discussion was attended by Kathmandu CDO Govinda Prasad Rijal, Nuwakot CDO Narayan Prasad Risal, Dhading CDO Krishna Prasad, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Chief Administrative Officer Loknath Poudyal, Chairperson of Kakani Rural Municipality Suman Tamang, Mayor of Dhunibeshi Municipality Balkrishna Acharya, and representatives of the agitating locals.

As per the agreement, garbage trucks will not leak leachate while transporting the garbage, odour control chemicals will be used at Bancharedanda landfill site, waste will be disposed of in a systematic manner, and the 10-point agreement between KMC, Kakani Rural Municipality, and Dhunibeshi Municipality on June 9 will be implemented.

Kathmandu CDO Rijal said transportation of valley's waste to the landfill site was expected to ease from tomorrow.
