KATHMANDU, AUGUST 18
Construction work under the Millennium Challenge Corporation compact will start next year. Executive Director of Millennium Challenge Account Nepal Khadga Bahadur Bisht said at an interaction organised by his office here today that the construction of transmission line and road projects would start from August 2023 after the completion of preparatory work, such as land acquisition and bidding.
The $500 million MCC project will end after five years from the date the construction work starts. As of today, the MCA Nepal has spent Rs 4.77 billion. Bisht said that the project had the authority to spend 12.78 per cent fund for preparatory work.
Bisht said that his office justifiably spent Rs 4.77 billion as some important preparatory works were carried out before the start of the construction work. Bisht said that delay in ratification of the MCC deal would lead to increase in the total project expenditure.
The project will construct 315 km long 400 kV transmission lines apart from three power sub stations. Only private companies will be allowed to take part in the tender process where national and international companies can participate.
