SIRAHA, AUGUST 25

Police in Siraha have arrested a youth in connection with a rape case.

Juman Khan, a resident of Ward No 7 of Golbazar Municipality, was arrested yesterday by a team of police from Area Police Office, Golbazar in Mirchaiya. He was hiding in his relative's house.

According to police, Khan had been on the run after he had sexually abused a 14-year-old girl with false assurance of marriage when he was living as a tenant in Ward No 6 of Golbazaar five months ago.

It is learnt that the rape accused was able to live in hiding with the support of elected local representatives.

Sources also informed there were attempts to settle the case by getting the man to marry the victim. Furthermore, it was claimed that no other but local representatives had been pressuring cops not to arrest the alleged perpetrator, citing that he was preparing to marry her.

Meanwhile, police have said a rape case has already been filed. As per the law any sexual relation established with a girl below the age of 18, even with her consent is considered rape.
