KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 4
Seven students from Nepal, chosen from a competitive application process via Huawei's Seeds for the Future programme, left for Thailand to participate in the first ever regional onsite program on August 18.
Seeds for the Future is Huawei's global flagship programme aimed at undergraduate level ICT students. Launched in 2021 in Nepal, the program received an overwhelming response from students this year.
After an eventful week where they learned about the Metaverse, 5G, AI and Cloud, and which also included visits to the UNESCAP office and cultural sites in Thailand, the week also saw them work with their assigned mentor to refine their project - Advait.
Advait was one of the winning projects in the Tech4Good competition held on Aug 27. 24 teams from 16 countries of the APAC region presented their unique ideas in the competition of which seven teams were chosen as the winners.
Advait is an app that uses blockchain and AI to detect fraud in medications. The idea is that a QR code is placed on each file of medication. Upon scanning this QR code, buyers are notified of the manufacturing date, the expiry date, whether the medication has come through a registered distributor/retailer, and the MRP.
Team Nepal with the other 6 winning teams will spend the next week in Singapore to participate in the Tech4Good accelerator camp where they will meet with experts and do a public demo of their idea at the National University of Singapore campus.
