The Nepal Sports Journalists Forum today felicitated senior journalist Jaya Dev Gautam and youth scribe Geeta Rai on the occasion of its 27th establishment day.

Gautam, who spent almost three decades in Nepali sports journalism working in various media outlets, received NSJF Journalism Award along with Rs 25,000, while Rai was honoured with Suman Bhomjan Youth Sports Journalism Award. She received a laptop.

National Sports Council Member Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising, General Secretary of Nepa Olympic Committee Nilendra Raj Shrestha, Secretary of Federation of Nepali Journalists Pawan Acharya and NSJF President Durga Nath Subedi honoured the duo amidst a programme at the International Sports Complex.

Recalling his days in sports journalism, Gautam said the sports journalists needed to know the technical aspect of the sports and strengthen their language to become a good reporter.

'The sports journalists should know the technicalities of the sport they are covering and they need to have a strong command over the language. In the absence of these two elements, the journalists cannot attract readers towards their writeups,' said Gautam, who lives in the United States with his family.
