Hussain, Lama break records on Day-II

TAC swimmers Nasir Yahya Hussain and Duana Lama set new national records in the Ninth National Games here today.

Hussain, who shattered a record on the first day, broke two national marks today at the 25m pool at Fishtail Academy.

He bettered his own record when he completed the 200m freestyle in one minute and 58.30 seconds. Hussain had set the mark of 1:55.39 in the 15th World FINA Championship in Doha. His TAC teammate Alex Gadegard Shah came second and Ervine Shrestha of Bagmati came second and third respectively.

Hussain also set the new mark in Individual Medley. He won the gold medal with a record timing of two minutes and 11.23 seconds, bettering the previous mark of 2:11:58, also set in Doha. NRNA's Ashish Sapkota and Bagmati's Seren Singh won silver and bronze respectively.

Also, Duana Lama broke her own mark in 50m breaststroke.

She won gold in 35:23 seconds bettering her previous best of 35:46 set in the 13th South Asian Games. Royal Prajapatiof APF and Upasti Maharjan of TAC won silver and bronze respectively.

Lama won her second gold of the day in 200m freestyle. She came first in two minutes and 14.64 seconds, ahead of NPC's Arya Maharjan and Samira Shova Thapa.

Olympian and 13th SA Games four gold medal winner, Gaurika Singh of TAC won gold in 100m backstroke with the timing of one minute and 5.50 seconds. NRNA's Ashley Sapkota Dangol came second and TAC's Anushiya Tandukar finished third.

Singh, who has already withdrawn from three events due to ill health conditions, led the TAC team to 4X100m relay gold. The team of Singh, Duana Lama, Upasti Maharjan and Anushiya Tandukar finished first in four minutes and 19.45 seconds. NRNA's Ashley Sapkota Dangol won women's 800m freestyle gold in 10 minutes and 30.64 seconds, while NPC's Arya Maharjan and Samira Shova Thapa claimed silver and bronze medals respectively.

Bikash Kumal of Province-I won 50m breaststroke gold in 31.20 second, finishing ahead of Bagmati's Seren Singh and NPC's Dipankeer Awal. APF's Tenzing Namdol Ryan Gurung bagged gold in men's 100m backstroke in one minute and 2.84 seconds, while Prarambha Bhandari of Province-I and APF's Jaden Shrestha came second and third respectively.

NPC team of Yuvan Lal Shrestha, Sunil Kumar Thapa Magar, Sankarsana Bahadur Raghubanshi and Subigya Man Tuladhar won men's 800m freestyle relay gold.
